Congressman Steve Watkins' Statement On House Rules Package

Washington, D.C. – Today, the House continued to vote on portions of the legislation that will create the rules the House of Representatives will abide by during the 116th Congress. Title II of this legislation creates a bipartisan select committee, made up by appointees of the Speaker and Minority Leader, to recommend updates and ways to modernize of the House of Representatives, including to create a more efficient House, improve schedule and calendar procedures, streamline administrative efficiency and mailing standards, and promote policies to develop the next generation of diverse leaders. Congressman Steve Watkins (KS-02) issued the following statement:
“While there are many aspects of the overall House Rules package that I oppose, I am happy to join with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to vote ‘YEA’ on the title to create this bipartisan committee. I am encouraged that Congress is actively taking steps to increase accessibility and efficiency. This is the type of common-sense bipartisan reform people want to see come out of Congress, coming together to provide solutions. The overall modernization of Congress is long overdue.”
